Miami, FL (FAUSports.com) - Senior running back Alfred Morris became Florida Atlantic University's all-time leading rusher in Saturday's 41-7 Shula Bowl loss to FIU in Miami. The Pensacola native gained 96 yards on 18 carries to achieve 3,144 career rushing yards - topping Charles Pierre's mark of 3,069 rushing yards.
FIU scored 21 second-quarter points to build a 31-0 halftime advantage. A 12-yard touchdown run by Kedrick Rhodes gave the Panthers a 17-0 advantage with 9:32 left in the second quarter. One minute later, Jake Medlock completed a nine-yard pass to Willis Wright. Then, the hosts wrapped up the productive quarter with a 97-yard punt return by T.Y. Hilton just before halftime.
The Owls found the end zone early in the third quarter when redshirt junior quarterback Graham Wilbert hooked up with redshirt freshman wide out Marcus Cunningham for a 22-yard touchdown. It was first touchdown for the Lakeland native.
Cunningham hauled in six passes for 76 yards, while freshman wide receiver William Dukes hauled in four receptions. Paul Moore had three catches for 32 yards from Wilbert, who completed 17 passes for 164 yards.
FAU falls to 0-9 on the season and returns to the field on Saturday, November 19, with a Sun Belt Conference game at Troy University, beginning at 3:30 p.m. FIU improves to 6-4 on the season.
