Following a first-round playoff exit, Chris Bean has resigned as Atlantic's head football coach. The Palm Beach Post first reported the news.

Bean told ESPN 760 he informed the administration midseason that he would be leaving, but kept it quiet until the end of the season.

"Basically, it was time for me to head home," said Bean of his decision. "To focus more on my family and get away from the grind of the football season and the extended season after the season, the summer grind and give my family more time."

Bean led the Eagles to an 8-3 record and the District 13-7A Title in his final year as head coach. Atlantic was upset by Boyd Anderson in the 7A Regional Quarterfinals 13-7 last night.

Bean, an Atlantic graduate, had two different stints as the head coach of his alma mater. He served as the head coach from 2003-2005 before departing to coach in Georgia.

Then in 2010, Bean returned to Atlantic and took over the football head coaching position following the midseason dismissal of Andre Thaddies after an arrest.

"I didnt know how long I was going to be in it or how long I'd be doing it," said Bean, referring to his return as the Eagles' head coach. "I was really doing it as a favor."

"I wanted just to be a positive force for the football program and be more than just a football coach. Mentoring them the right way, encouraging them to do the right things."

Overall, Bean was 41-21 in his six seasons as the Eagles' head coach.

While Bean is leaving Atlantic, he'll be staying local in Delray Beach. Bean will now serve as the Athletic Director for Pompei Park, a place he grew up with as a kid.

As for the future of the Atlantic program, Bean didn't offer a recommendation on who the Eagles should hire and said he would stay out of the search.

"I'm sure they'll make the right decision on who the guy is going to be."
