Seminole Ridge DT Kyle Shortridge chooses Louisville

Dec 11, 2012 -- 8:15am

By: Ken LaVicka

A new contract for Louisville head coach Charlie Strong was the final factor in Kyle Shortridge's commitment to the Cardinals.
Four days after Strong turned down a lucrative contract to take over the Tennessee-program, the heavily-pursued Seminole Ridge defensive tackle told Louisville of his intentions to play for them Monday, the final day of an official visit.
“He was waiting to see what was going to happen with Coach Strong, but he felt good about everything when he found out he wasn't leaving,” said Seminole Ridge head coach Matt Dickmann.
“He really liked [UL associate head coach] Clint Hurtt and Coach Strong and felt strongly about Louisville.”
Hurtt, a former University of Miami assistant who was implicated in the Nevin Shapiro scandal, has continued to make major recruiting headway in South Florida, with Shortridge his latest triumph.
This is the third college commitment for 6'2”, 275 lb. Shortridge, who gave a brief verbal to Wake Forest in July and recently pulled his allegiance to Purdue after head coach Danny Hope was fired. Dickmann says Shortridge was all-in on Purdue, but much of that was due to Hope.
Shortridge visited with Nebraska coaches last week at the Loxahatchee high school, but it wasn't enough to sway him off of Louisville.
