Duse Report: Brissett nearing transfer decision

Jan 14, 2013 -- 1:10am

By: Wells Dusenbury

Two years ago, former Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett shocked many when he chose the University of Florida over Miami, considering the Gators already had another highly sought after QB recruit in Jeff Driskel.

Two years later, Brissett is once again looking for a home after deciding to transfer from the University of Florida last week.

Brissett made major headway in making a decision on his new school as he took visits to North Carolina State and West Virginia this weekend. While Louisville and Arkansas both were in the mix last week, NC State and WVU look like the frontrunners to land Brissett.

Former Dwyer star and current NFL free agent Abe Elam accompanied Brissett on his visit to West Virginia today. Dwyer head coach Jack Daniels said last week Brissett wants to be at his new school for the spring semester, so a decision should be coming shortly.

Five other thoughts

-With less than a month until Signing Day, Ft. Pierce Central running back Marcus Levy is still looking for a home. Right now, Middle Tennessee, Bowling Green and Temple are all in the mix for the talented back.

The wildcard though could be South Florida. Cobras head coach Josh Shaffer says the school asked for his academic information on Thursday and are interested in the senior. The Bulls haven't offered yet, but would be probably bee in the driver's seat for Levy if they do.

-Two members of Vero Beach's highly touted secondary made their college decision this weekend. Cornerbacks Sean Paul and Dravious Wright both committed to North Carolina State on Sunday while on an official visit at the school.

New head coach Dave Doeren pursued the duo heavily earlier this year while at Northern Illinois and continued to go after the DBs after taking the NC State job.

Paul was considering Wake Forest and Louisville before deciding on the Wolfpack, while Wright held an earlier offer from Northern Illinois.

-One player nowhere near a decision is Atlantic defensive tackle Keith Bryant. The highly touted senior was up at Tallahasee this weekend on an official visit at Florida State. Bryant plans on taking visits to Tennessee, South Carolina and Miami before making an official decision. Bryant was once a UM commit, but backed off that last month.

-After committing to Iowa State in late December, it looked like Brisly Estime's recruitment was finally over. However, three weeks later, the Atlantic speedster is back on the market. Estime said on twitter late Sunday night that the Cyclones pulled his offer this weekend after he took a visit up to Western Michigan.

So with else a month before Signing Day, Estime is looking for a new school. Estime tweeted out on Sunday that Arkansas plans to visit him this week, although they have not offered yet. Estime currently holds offers from Purdue and Western Michigan

-Interest in Cardinal Newman tight end Matt Burke is really starting to heat up as we hit the home stretch of the recruiting season. Burke previously held offers from schools like San Diego State and Boise State, but some Big 10 schools are now starting to get in the mix.

Purdue offered the 6'6'' tight end today and Wisconsin is planning on coming down this week to check out him out in person. Burke recently played in the U.S. Army All-American Game in Texas.
