Duse Report: Super Bowl to be well represented with Muck Bowl alums

Jan 21, 2013 -- 1:19am

By: Wells Dusenbury

Over the past few years, the Muck Bowl has no doubt lost much of its luster. With Pahokee experiencing unprecedented struggles, the once-fierce rivalry has been a one-sided affair with Glades Central dominating the match-up.

Two weeks from today, Blue Devil fans will have plenty to cheer for though as Pahokee alums Anquan Boldin and Pernell McPhee hit the field for the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXVLI.

Boldin had a sensation performance Sunday in the AFC Championship Game, recording 5 catches for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Ravens' 28-13 win over New England.

The Pahokee duo will square off against another Muck Bowl alum, as Glades Central grad and San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald will line up on the opposing side. The former Raider had 5 tackles Sunday in the 49ers 28-24 win over Atlanta in the NFC Championship Game.

Even though the Muck Bowl hasn't lived up to its billing over the past few years, Glades Central and Pahokee fans will get to experience their own NFL version of the Muck Bowl when the former area stars square off on Super Bowl Sunday.

Five other thoughts

-The chase for Centennial's Jay-nard Bostwick is now entering the home stretch. The Eagles' star defensive tackle toured the University of Miami campus this weekend. Bostwick has the Canes in his top 3 along with Alabama and Florida.

Bostwick visited Alabama last week and is scheduled to visit Florida on February 2nd.

-The area's other standout defensive tackle was also in Coral Gables this weekend. Atlantic's Keith Bryant was in Miami with Bostwick to check out the school. Bryant was once a Miami commit, but later backed off that pledge to check out other schools.

Florida State is considered the frontrunner for Bryant, but South Carolina, Tennessee and Miami are all still in the mix. Bryant will make his decision on National Signing Day, in an event that will be televised on ESPN.

-Bryant's Atlantic teammate Brisly Estime is also getting plenty of love as we approach Signing Day. The special teams standout says that Arkansas and Western Michigan plan on stopping by this week to check him out.

Estime says he plans on taking an official visit to North Carolina State this weekend. The Wolfpack have had a big off-season in the area, receiving commitments from Vero Beach DBs Sean Paul and Dravious Wright. In addition, former Dwyer and Florida Gators quarterback Jacoby Brissett has transferred to N.C State.

-Cardinal Newman's Matt Burke was on the road in Big 10 country this weekend. The 6'6'' tight end took an official visit to Purdue to check out the Boilermakers.

Purdue and fellow Big 10 rival Wisconsin are making a late push for the talented tight end.

-After touring the Michigan State campus this weekend, Treasure Coast defensive back Justin Williams saw all he needed to see. The Titans safety committed to play for the Spartans while on a visit in East Lansing.

Williams will the the only player from Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast on the Michigan State roster.
