Dwyer, Vero Beach to meet up in Spring Game

Feb 15, 2013 -- 4:29pm

By: Wells Dusenbury

For a second straight year, two of the top programs in Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast will meet up in the spring.

On May 23rd, Dwyer will hit the road to take on defending District 8-8A champ Vero Beach at Billy Livings Field for their spring game, per Vero head coach Lenny Jankowski.

Last year, Dwyer squared off against Ft. Pierce Central in the spring, with the Panthers beating the Cobras 43-26 at Dwyer.

This year's match-up between the Panthers and Fighting Indians should highlight this year's spring schedule.

With a loaded class of rising seniors featuring the likes of Johnnie Dixon, Clint Stephens and Shawn Boone, the Panthers are once again expected to compete for a State Title.

Dwyer though is coming off somewhat of a down season for their high standards. The Panthers struggled offensively for most of the year and eventually fell in the 7A Regional Semifinals to Boyd Anderson.

Meanwhile, Vero Beach has established itself as one of the Treasure Coast's top programs, with the Fighting Indians going 18-4 during Jankowski's two years as head coach.

Last year, Vero Beach went 9-2 with an appearance in the 8A Regional Semifinals.
